Experience teaches me that every case of procurement happens to be a project in itself. However, the urge ,deep inside, to be creative and innovative in routine work also has seen vision taking a distinct shape in the work environment.

Some of the outstanding projects that really have been source of immense satisfaction are the projects handled by self in the role of the Task Force Leader.

PROJECTS HANDLED AS TASK FORCE LEADER

1)  Design and development of Automatic Procurement system

The project was taken up to develop a centralised agency to be responsible for planning, procuring, storing and controlling various consumable items of common nature in order to avoid duplication of procurement action by many agencies that otherwise often resulted into lack of attention on core activities by technologists besides building avoidable inventory at many locations.

The project work had as its output :

1) Identification of commonly used consumables
2) Drawing of exhaustive nomenclature of each item and codifying it
3) Determination of a suitable Inventory model based on Periodic Review and
4) Development of procedure for a  cyclic procurement action by the Central stores.

2) Computer applications in Materials Management functions

Led the multidisciplinary task force with members drawn from Purchase , Stores , Finance and Computer areas and   Designed , developed and implemented complete software systems on Data feeding, update ,on screen queries ,document generation, reporting and monitoring activities in the areas of :

• Stores Receiving

• Inventory Management

• Automatic Procurement system

• Integrated Purchase Management

• Follow up with Vendors

• Vendors' Registration and

• MIS

Unique experience gained in writing the complete software packages

3) Improvement in the system of Procurement of materials

A TQM project, it has a multidisciplinary task force consisting of Technology professionals , Materials managers and Total Quality Process Division people.

The main objective of the project is to reduce the current Procurement lead time apart from rationalising the system to be more flexible. The methodology used is data collection through sampling , identification of problems and solutions through brain storming sessions and finally implementation and review of implementation after a year. The project is still continuing.
